Of course Letterman is gloating, why wouldn't he? His main competition is eating itself apart. Reminds me of the upcoming cat fight between Sarah Palin vs Ole Mormon Mitt.

Love Letterman! He is so right about the NBC executives. That network is a mess.

Another great late night show is Lopez Tonight.

When I was in the Air Force many years ago, one of the best deals we had was the Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) in which Ham radio operators passed calls from our station on base to people in the US. I suggest that a system like that be set up. Possibly the military could set up ham stations and then run calls from there to stations in the US who could then place calls throughout the country. The idea when I was involved was that the ham station in the states would place collect calls but retired AF Maj Gen Barry Goldwater never passed a collect call. He paid for all calls through his station. I think setting up something like the MARS program would solve a lot of problems and help people in the states find out about loved ones. It would also cut back on the amount of calls people are trying to make without success. Irish Blessings on You All and God Be With You.

NBC should be ashamied for what they are doing to Conen&Jay! They should leave Jay with his 1hr show before the local news and leave the tonight showshow right after the nes like it has ALWAYS been! the Only thing that show be done if anything is get rid of conan after his contrzct is up and not renew it and have someone else take over the tonight show from him.Cause Jay still deserves his 1 hr show before the newsAnd NOT be and 1/2 hr and move his show with it in his name now to the starting time of the tonights show time and then have the tonight show at 1/2 hr later is SO SO WRONG for both Jay and Conen and the fans on both of them

Larry, did you know that the haitian government has 130 millions US for emergencies cases... why are they not able to take care of the bodies in the street.

Leon Hale   January 14th, 2010 1:22 am ET

What it the government or someone who really cares about these Haiti, get about 4 or 5 cruise ship and put them on them with medical doctors and nurses , also they can take them somewhere else. As of now if I am not mistaken they don't have anywhere to stay except in the streets. At least they will have some where to stay and be taken care of.

John McCoy   January 14th, 2010 6:25 am ET

RE: my previous comment. Gather a group of ham operators, send them and their equipment as self-supporting units to Haiti. Set up other state-side ham stations to handle their calls. That would take a big load off the communications systems and get the news to people who need it without tying up other means. Send medical and other supplies along with them. Try to embed or connect them to existing operations to make their operations a bit easier.

John McCoy   January 14th, 2010 6:30 am ET

I've heard that some casino ships operating out of Mayport, FL may not be being used right now. If that's true, how about some rescue outfit chartering them to provide some place for some Haitians to stay and/or as a previous comment said, outfitting them with doctors, nurses, etc to handle wounded. They could also be used as floating child care centers.

Regarding Haiti - Do you remember the old Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS)? I remember being able to talk with my family from overseas via HAM radio and collect calls. Senator (retired USAF major general) Barry Goldwater was a HAM operator and, while I was never fortunate enough to go through his station, he never passed a collect call. If you were lucky enough to get him, he paid for all calls. It would seem to me that this system could alleviate much of the communications problems which exists. I'm sure HAM operators are involved, but I haven't heard about any. What's happening in this case?
