Update: Tiger Woods injured in car crash

Posted: 06:10 PM ET

(CNN) - Golfer Tiger Woods was taken to a Florida hospital after suffering facial injuries in a car crash early Friday, police said.

The one-car accident occurred about 2:25 a.m. near Woods' home in Windermere, a suburb of Orlando, according to an incident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A statement from Woods' publicist and Health Central Hospital called the accident "minor" and said Woods was "admitted, treated and released today in good condition."

Woods, 33, had just pulled out of his driveway in his 2009 Cadillac SUV and had begun to drive down a street when he struck a fire hydrant, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The front of his vehicle then struck a tree.

Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn told CNN that local police arrived within two minutes of being notified. The golfer was taken to Health Central Hospital, where he was treated for facial lacerations and released, Bruhn said.

"I think it's nothing more than an accident," he said.

Given the shear bulk of a Cadillac SUV, it doesn't sound like Tiger Woods was wearing his safety harness. Perhaps he accidentally slammed on the gas petal Or the gas petal was accidentally stuck under something?

Besides golfing, Tiger Woods is reportedly a very good snow skier, and has superior neuro-kinetics which allows him to very quickly make minor adjustments with his body which the average person wouldn't be able to do.

I First ask forgiveness. I am truly thankful that Mr. Woods is OK. I am a golfer and I now wonder if the statement Drive for show and putt for dough applies?

So Tiger Woods hits a tree and a fire hydrant , that is news...???
Your news stations should pay more attention to the things that really matter than spending a whole day on such trivial matter.

John   November 28th, 2009 11:49 am ET

His problem was with steering not with gas. He hit a fire hydrant on one side of the road and a tree on the other side and ended up bleeding and going in and out of consciousness just outside his own driveway from a bump that didn't even make the airbags go off? And his wife broke the glass window with a golf club? And at 2:30 in the morning? Sounds very suspicious to me.

The media has become hysterical. Instead of doing reporting and fact checking, they report unfiltered information as fast as possible. The biggest embarrassment was the balloon boy hoax. They spent all afternoon covering that and it was such a obvious prank. Then Tiger Woods is breaking news seriously injured in a car accident in a hospital 12 or more hours after he is discharged home. And they reward the White House State Dinner crashers with tons of media coverage which is exactly what they wanted. The media makes no sense at all.

I notice that the news does not report news any more but likes to create it. Who really cares why Tiger was out at what hour. He is a free man and can come and go as he pleases, You feel that he needs you permission to go out? Trying to create a story can be rough, you should try reporting the news instead.

It sounds to me as if his jealous wife battered Tiger and we have a double standard of justice when it comes to domestic violence. If this had happened to Mrs. Woods, the cops would be all over him and I’ll bet he would have been arrested, smeared and in jail by now.

Gerald Jolly   November 28th, 2009 9:49 pm ET

GEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!

Leave the guy "ALONE"

He is'nt the first celebrity to have a car accident, and what's most important he did'nt hurt anyone except himself, and at least he cannot be smeared for being intixicated.
GOOD GOD, GIVE THE GUY A BREAK!

Anne   November 28th, 2009 10:04 pm ET

No one is in and out of unconsciousness for 6 minutes for no reason. Either he had a significant brain trauma (golf club?) or it was something else. Did the hospital do a toxicology screen? He maybe very lucky he hit a tree and a person. You might not think it was a private matter if someone hit your family member driving erratically. When you go out on the road, it becomes a public matter. And the man could actually be in danger.

Dodie   November 28th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

@ Anne

Well stated.

---------

Woods' vehicle hit a fire hydrant and a tree in his neighbor's yard after he pulled out of his driveway at 2:25 a.m.

If this were Joe Schmoe with the identical circumstances, I doubt the Highway Patrol would do more than write up a police report describing what they saw when they arrived on the scene and if any motor vehicle codes had been violated. They would then simply go on about their business with no further follow up needed. Seems that since Tiger Woods is a well known celebrity with no history of drunk driving or family violence, they just couldn't help themselves. My goodness! What would the tabloids say if they found out the police didn't make a mountain out of a mole hill? This is not to say there may not be more to the story but it seems to me to be a pretty good leap from Mrs. Woods broke the window to assist him out of his car to Mrs. Woods was more intent on breaking the golf club over Tiger's head or some such. Even if there was a domestic dispute, it seems Tiger would have gotten the worse of it and how many happily married couples have not had a difference of opinion that lead to one of them wanting to break some dishes or throw a couple pots and pans?

pat davis   November 29th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

Sound like domestic trouble to me. Where was Tiger going at 2:25 a.m. ? His wife breaks out the back window with a golf club and pulls him out the SUV! Yeah the golf club she was chasing him with down the driveway with, and he was trying so hard to get away from her he slammed into the neighbors fire hydrant and then a tree!

Think about it! Their story makes NO sense at all. What is his wife, Superwoman?

They were having a fight!

Gerald Jolly   November 29th, 2009 6:51 pm ET

Lets see.
Tiger's black, that should allow lots of fodder for all the racist bigots.

Tiger's a golf super star, that should allow all the jealous morons who could'nt hit a straight long ball if their life depended on it.

Oh! I forgot, he's black so obviously he's a woman batterer.

Tiger's probably the richest athlete in the world, Ah! maybe there's an opportunity for some sleazy S.O.B. to make a couple of bucks out of this.

2:30 A.M. AHHHH! "I KNOW" he was sneeking out to meet a woman.

It truly amazes me how idiots will fantasize about all the "EVIL" things Tiger was planning when he had a minor accident with his car.

Ever think that maybe he was just going out to get milk for his child, or maybe just going out for a drive to clear his head of all the pressures he is subjected to everyday.???????????

TXmom   November 29th, 2009 10:05 pm ET

John,
The first story was she broke the rear window with the golf club but THEN the pics came out and the rear window was intact BUT the back TWO side passenger windows were smashed (one on each side of the car).
Why would someone need to break both windows to rescue someone? Cops who got there at the site initially said they found her "hovering over him".
Cops want to see his injuries, he refusing to let them. For three days now. WHY??? The cops want to see if his injuries are "consistant" with the scene of the accident. There was no blood in the front seat or on the steering wheel. Yet he falls out of the car, is drifting in and out, and has a mouthful of blood and facial "cuts".

pat davis   November 29th, 2009 10:10 pm ET

TXmom,

hmmmm.....Sounds like Mr. & Mrs. Woods had a little altercation!

TXmom   November 29th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

pat davis,

Read elsewhere: And the woman who some papers claim the altercation was about..has lawyered up with Gloria Allred. Yeah. Pass the popcorn.
But the CNN blogs give it all a rosey picture, don't they? Courageous wife, one car accident, minor injuries...ho hum, move along, nothing to see here.
Um, since when do the following equal minor injuries = losing consciousness for 6 minutes, mouth full of blood while on the ground, facial injuries that you refuse to show to the cops for three days post-accident.

Gerald Jolly   November 30th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Pat Davis and TXmom are going to sue Tiger Woods for ailing to report directly to them about his car accident.

In the Law Suite, their claim is that as citizens of the United States they have the right to know everything about Tiger Woods, and his failure to "TELL ALL" infringes on their rights to be told everything that Tiger does, when he has sex with his wife, what he has for diner and breakfast every day, what and why he choses to wear the clothing he is wearing on any particular day, what kind of toilet paper he uses, does he use condoms when he makes love to his wife, does he have a secret girlfriend somewhere, why has he not chosen either one of them for extra caricular sex activity,

All of the above is what TXmom and Pat Davis are claiming in their libel suite against Tiger Woods.

GEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
