I think this was all a hoax for publicity! It's sad that people would put their children in this position! The boy said clearly, "You said we did this for the show!" I'm a parent and I don't know what I would do if something happens to my son! There's something not right about this picture.

Marie   October 15th, 2009 11:21 pm ET

I am sickened to think this was all a hoax. On top of that I almost ruined a good pot of soup because I left it go and was praying that balloon boy was ok..

Marie   October 15th, 2009 11:23 pm ET

maricris I agree. Out of the mouths of babes. The reaction of the father after and mother told the truth right there. And not being mean but that child couldn't sit for each segment must less 4 hours.. Sad just horribly sad.

Rick Edwards   October 15th, 2009 11:39 pm ET

What a revealing moment in the Wolf interview with the family. The young boy clearly stated that he was put up to it "for a show". "Richard" the father, was clearly uncomfortable and could barely sit still. This should be a criminal case and the father should have to make a statement under oath! This is disturbing and child services needs to investigate these strange parents. Bazar!

Laura   October 16th, 2009 12:24 am ET

I agree with Maricris that this was a publicity stunt. My husband said this while it was happening, but the boy did just say "we did it for the show". And then the father seemed to get all nervous.

Veronica   October 16th, 2009 12:39 am ET

Did the balloon boy just say that "they told him to do it for the show?" Busted on national television!! I hope these people get prosecuted to the greatest extent of the law.

Jaime   October 16th, 2009 1:38 am ET

It is quite clear coming from little Falcon's mouth, very hesitantly I might add, that "It was for the show" and with the parents response, how could it not be a hoax. I was hoping my ears and my eyes were wrong so I watched this show 3 times over and the body language of father alone shows the guilt. I have 2 boys myself and I agree that there is no way that a little boy at 6 years old could stay in a box for 4 hours plus! Sleeping..really... are you kidding? With all the chaos and people in and around the house? And the mom even looked in drawers, but not the attic? I really hope that I am wrong. To think to waste all the courageous efforts of our law enforcement, military, neighbors and friends for recognition of what ever pathetic reason the parents wanted to gain is SICK! Not to mention, I and countless viewers, worried and praying for little Falcon. I would love to see Nancy Grace do a segment on them!! In her words....this is B.S...!

Elyzz   October 16th, 2009 1:41 am ET

I'm glad the boy is fine, but that had to be the WORSE Larry King Live show to watch. I just don't understand why this family had to be interviewed for a full hour especially with 2 of those boys not being able to keep still. Was this really news worthy for a whole hour with everything else that is going on in the country? I'm sure there will be copy cats thinking what rediculous thing they can do so they can also get their time on tv.

Rahul   October 16th, 2009 2:09 am ET

Father needs to go to jail. I bet he's beating his son, trying to make him a better actor for future press interviews. For the sake of the kids, take the parents away, at least for now. This whole thing !!****ing pisses me off, 'cause I was actually worried!

tina   October 16th, 2009 3:30 am ET

Here's yet another reason this whole thing was a SCAM!

That little boy said he went to the attic to hide because his dad yelled at him.

Well, if that's the case, that little boy must LIVE up there, because based on the horrific behavior of both parents, there is a whole lotta yelling going on in that house, all the time.

There are more holes in these people's stories than the swiss cheese moon they seem to believe in, too!

travis   October 16th, 2009 3:46 am ET

Unbelievable!
The father gave an interview to a local tv station immediately afterward saying that their other son filmed Falcon getting into the craft.
The father then says they watched it back and confirmed little Falcon got into the compartment below the craft (no basket).

Hello? Police investigators? Are you listening?

Go get the TAPE!!!!!!!!!! What a crock!!

travis   October 16th, 2009 3:53 am ET

People should really watch this guy's raw interview with the local news.
He tells reporters he is a "scientist" - LIE!!!

then later, when pressed, calls himself an "amateur" scientist.

This guy is out for publicity for this hovercraft invention.

And gee! What a coincidence that the boy reappears only after the exhaustive search and the thing finally runs out of air and hits the ground.

Amazing!

Can you say "Ollie, Ollie, In-Free" anyone?

travis   October 16th, 2009 4:00 am ET

More Questions!

The father admits to filling the Jiffy Pop popper with Helium with the intent to launch.

Is this legal? In a residential neighborhood?

C'mon man.....this whole thing is just full of baloney.
The more I listen to him, the more BS I am hearing.

The reporters at the impromptu press conference are asking terrific questions and this guy is dodging so many of them.
I would love to know how the local reporters are handling this.
They have to have their suspicions, too.

Good job on their part....unlike the haphazard wolf blitzer.

Susan Justice   October 16th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

I agree the police should confiscate that home made tape and I HOPE they are made to repay the money this STUNT cost the tax payers!

Ridiculous

Joanaroo   October 16th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

A big example of bad parenting in America: Offshoot of "me-ism" from the 80s to "me-and-my-kids-ism"-thank you reality TV! Plus what if a neighbor kid had climbed in there, launched and died? What if a cop, EMT, National Guardsman of fire personel had been injured or killed during this event-not to mention the cost and manpower used! And letting your kids chase storms, be on the roof, and you don't even like yelling at the kid for this? Stupid parents! I know my parents sure would've punished us for this!

Joanaroo   October 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

As I watched the live coverage of this event I was so worried a child aboard would die, then to find the craft was tethered improperly I thought what if other kids had gotten in it. But when I found out this kid wasn't even in it and worrying he fell out-then finding out he wasn't in it and hiding made me want to go smack his butt! I could hear Bill Cosby's Dr. Huxtable character say, "Now you better start wishing you WERE in there!".

G. Fischer   October 16th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

This guy is completely full of ****. He had not been on tv lately and he wanted to get back on the air, It worked!

Housing Grants Application   October 16th, 2009 11:39 pm ET

They look like a normal family. Treat them nicely (even if their motive isn't the best)

PhlacPigger   October 18th, 2009 6:53 am ET

Perhaps Balloon Boy is lactose intolerant. I wouldn't be surprised if his vomiting was followed by a bout of the Hershey squirts.

Anna   October 18th, 2009 8:24 am ET

geeesh these crack pots should never be allowed to own a tv ever agine let alone be on one .reality show? pleaseeeeee give me a break...

mary   October 18th, 2009 2:08 pm ET

The father must be blame and of course, he must pay the cost of the terrible troubles. Maybe he has bipolar behavior..

mary   October 18th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

The family did a great job with the ballon, but the rest...

Anna   October 18th, 2009 8:48 pm ET

Child Protective Services should remoive the children ASAP...... intence therapy for mom and idiot dad . ohh The dad Richard H is posted as a single on my space. hahaha wifey dear.. quick! dial 1-800 DIVORCE LAWYER
