As an independent progressive, I didn't vote for him in the 1992 primary, and almost voted for Perot in the general election. In the end, I voted for him VERY reluctantly in 1992 and 1996, with great misgivings. I never liked NAFTA, the WTO or his triangulation strategy with Dick Morris–who is one of the sleaziest people in American politics.

One of the main reasons I went all out for Obama in 2008 right from the earliest primaries, was that I did not want eight more years of HIM and the DLC-Blue Dog-NAFTA Democrats, although it looks like we got them anyway. I was hoping for a more progressive reformist president after the Second Gilded Age of the last 30 years, since we are in the first real reform cycle since the 1960s. Well, at least we gave it the old college try....

I was less concerned about his personal life, since he never really ran as a Family Values Republican. I am a libertarian about whatever consenting adults do in their personal lives, as long as they do no harm to anyone else. Nevertheless, I was never a Clinton-DLC supporter and never will be.

In regards to the health care reform and the controversy that the president Obama has found in the disagreement of some people; do you believe that this all controversy is related to race? Why people mention socialism? I mean those who say that are IGNORANT and ARROGANT because we all know that socialism do not exist and work anymore, with the exception of some countries. The former president Clinton tried to do the same with a health care program, but I remember that in that moment people didn't react like now. Thank you Larry, I love your show :)

Just what is the real reason why Bill Clinton is so interested in The Global Initiative? What is his meaning fo "Global Initiative"? That phrase itself is so very global (meaning a very large scope into what meanings it can and may have)? Does he mean Global Interests to make interests off his Steaks in the Global Economy (for his own personal gain)? Just what is HIS truthful meaning of "Global Initiatives" anyhow. When I think of Global I think of anything it envolves as being Extremely Large and Gigantic and the profits that go along with that! So Larry please ask ole Billy Boy to come clean with the American Citizens? I know he and George H Bush went to Kwola Lumpar when the Psunami hit there and always dialogue, so just what do they have to talk about so much and privately? Hummmmm?

ron   September 21st, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Does no one remember when Mr. Clinton leaned over and told LArry King; "This economic problem will not effect people like us" ??? Who cares what such detached people think or do? They live in Oz. What will happen when the hundreds of billions of dollars of bad commercial paper finally goes south??

ron   September 21st, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Dodie ~ California   September 21st, 2009 5:47 pm ET

((Question))

1. Exactly how ugly is it in Washington?
2. Is there any way we can rid ourselves of Lobbyists?
3. Isn't it a conflict of interest, lobbyists giving "perks" to already well paid elected officials in Congress who continue to use our money for travel, fancy hotels, resturants and intertainment???

Years ago they tired to at least be discrete. Now, they don't even care. And if special interests have lobbyists, How about, We The People" have our own Lobbyists so we can have "public Option"

((( I am Outraged at the Behavior of our so called "elected officials" in Congress )))

What ever happened to honesty?

If I had my way, I would remove everyone from Congress starting with house speaker Pelosi!!! I have had ENOUGH!!!

jeff   September 21st, 2009 5:53 pm ET

Dodie ~ California   September 21st, 2009 5:55 pm ET

@ Carmen69

If you look at our history, Large corporate america, Pharmaceuticals, AMA, insurance companies, etc... Have been calling any president that suggests "public option" a socialist, a communist, etc. This mentality started with Rosevelt and Truman and it is still happening 70 some years later! This part of the issue is not about race.... this part of the issue is about money/power and control of us Americans by These large entities!!!

Is racisism a problem in the US? Yes!!! Do some people hate pres. Obama because of his race? Yes! But the vast majority is due to money.

I always say.... "follow the money trail" and you will find your answer!

Priti   September 21st, 2009 6:21 pm ET

How does President Clinton choose his set of consumer products to test out and/or use? And what's his favorite soft drink? Does it say anything about him as a person and as a leader? Is there a clear distinction between a presidential persona and the president as a normal person?

Matt, Washington DC   September 21st, 2009 6:25 pm ET

Please ask former President Bill Clinton, why hasn't the current administration conveyed the fact that many jobs will not come back to America until cost are under control?

Please elaborate on the fact our taxes are higher because of government liabilities being affected by increased healthcare cost, and American businesses can't compete with countries that have universal healthcare. So, if people are angry because they are suffering, they should be for Healthcare Reform not against it. – just sayin'!

Dennis Gilliam   September 21st, 2009 6:26 pm ET

In the recent FBI investigation regarding Afghani immigrants in the USA, do you think the FBI is doing an adequate job? I feel that they uncovered the plot early in its planning stages and should be praised for that. Should those linked to Al Queda be punished, imprisoned or deported? Why is he only being charged with lying? What does former President Clinton think?

L.HERRON   September 21st, 2009 6:31 pm ET

RE: RACISM...WHY IS IT WHEN A WHITE PERSON DOES SOMETHING THAT BLACKS DON'T LIKE, IT'S RACISM, YET WE HAVE A BLACK COLLEGE FUND; BLACK CAUCUS; BLACK MISS AMERICA....YET, WE ARE RACISTS...BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TV (BET), BLACK HISTORY MONTH AND ON AND ON, YET WE ARE RACISTS.....SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG HERE!!!!!

Matthew Jenkins   September 21st, 2009 6:39 pm ET

Could we get together for lunch? I have a plethora of things I would like to ask you and talk to you about.

Best Regards,

joanne ontario canada   September 21st, 2009 6:42 pm ET

Will Hillary be running for President in 2012????????????

LacrosseMom   September 21st, 2009 6:56 pm ET

Great to have President Clinton on LKL tonight! One of our great presidents!

Please, President Clinton, talk about the 45,000 Americans that die each year because they can not afford healthcare!

IF 45,000 people were dying each year because of terrorist attacks, the GOPers would be out in the streets rioting!

However, when 45,000 Americans die yearly from lack of healthcare, the far-right is....... silent!

James from TN   September 21st, 2009 7:22 pm ET

Uncle is in the house tonight!!!! Hey Larry ask Bill if the Obama economy has any potental of being as good as the Clinton administration's economy?

Trudy   September 21st, 2009 7:59 pm ET

Yes Ron I remember when he also said that the Health Care Reform would not affect him and Larry too. This man is just another OLD POLITICIAN JUST LIKE ALL HIS PREDICESSORS. HE IS NO DIFFERENT. AS A MATTER OF FACT IF YOU AND ALL CAN AND SHOULD REMEMBER. HE DID NOT WANT MR. BARACK OBAMA IN THE WHITE HOUSE EITHER. AND I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS JUST ABOUT HIS WIFE WINNING EITHER. HE KNEW HE WOULD HAVE TO COME OUT AND OPEN ABOUT ALL HIS MONEY MAKING WHILE HE WAS IN 'THE OFFICE." THIS MAN IS THE WORST KIND OF SNAKE. HE TALKS AND WALKS SMOOTHE AND SAYS THINGS THAT MAKES HIS HEARERS BELIEVE AND TRUST IN HIM AND ALL THE WHILE HE IS THE CHIEF ONE STABBING THEM IN THEIR BACKS! I ALSO NEVER WILL FORGET THE DAY BEFORE HE LEFT THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT, HE HAD THE UNMITTIGATED GAUL TO ASK DICK GREGORY, TAVIS SMILEY, AND ALL THE BLACK CAUCUS "WHAT THEY WANTED HIM TO DO FOR THE THEM AND BLACK AMERICA OKAY. SO HE HAS A DAY TO GET BACK ALL THE S#(! HE DID TOO.

Trudy   September 21st, 2009 8:04 pm ET

Jeff if Mr. Clinton was such a good president in your opinion, then how much money did he share with you when he left office. And what else did he give you to make your life so much better? I sure would like to know, because he sure didn't leave me witha damn thing.

LacrosseMom   September 21st, 2009 8:25 pm ET

@ Trudy, dear madam, you are free to voice your opinion. However, I would like to point out to you that during the eight years that Clinton was in the White House, our nation ..... prospered, tremendously! We had relative peace. President Clinton even paid OFF some of the national debt he inherited from Bush I. Left Bush II a surplus! And a balanced budget!

So, you may not like Clinton, since he is a Democrat, but history tells the story of what a great president Clinton was!

Peace be with you!

Judith   September 21st, 2009 8:30 pm ET

If a President could do 3 terms Former Pres Clinton would have won in 2000

Pres Obama has stated that the jobs that are gone might not be the same ones to come back.He stated other ways are to be found in America.Bottom line is we can make clothes, toys and every thing else including grow fruits and vegs.IT's up to the American people if they want to pay for American made or cheap for Foreign made.

As far as Iraq of 8 years I do not understand when they did not find WMD why did they stay in Iraq when the terrorists came out of Afghanistan.
Now they want to take more troops in.The GOPs will vote yes. When we finally do get out when ever that is it can all start up again with them fighting one another. It looks like we will be the only ones staying to fight.
I get tired that ones say we have to show them 'how to fight'.They've been fighting for years and will continue when we are gone.
The GOPs excuse is terrorists.Bottom Line we will always have to be on the look out on terrorism just like the past.

Terry, TX   September 21st, 2009 8:39 pm ET

Please no more global crappola.....the report is out Bill....over population is the problem....you leave our businesses alone.....you leave our utilities payments alone......loose the cap and trade scam....loose the amnesty program and enforce our immigration laws......Kill the Obamacare Bill Part 1 and Bill Part 2. Where's the jobs...we were just scammed in February for over a trillion dollars for jobs....Why did the Apollo Alliance write the job pork recovery stimulus......George Soros and his group of Apollo...Acorn .....and SEIU.... These guys don't pass the smell test.

KIM COLAR   September 21st, 2009 8:52 pm ET

WHY DID MOST OF AMERICA "VOTE FOR CHANGE" AND NOW THAT THE PRESIDENT IS TRYING TO TAKE US THERE WE ARE LETTING THE PEOPLE WHO CAN CARE LESS ABOUT THE COMMON FOLK AND ONLY ABOUT THERE POLITICAL CAREERS SCARE US FROM MOVING FORWARD. FORGET THE SENATE, WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO STAND BEHIND THE MAN THAT'S LOOKING OUT FOR US, ALL OF US AND TRUST IN THE LEADER WE VOTED FOR. WE OWE IT TO OURSELVES TO GIVE HIM A CHANCE, HIS TERM IS NOT UP YET!

justin   September 21st, 2009 8:57 pm ET

I am curious if anyone has looked into centralizing hospitals. I know of tens of thousands charged to patients from one single department in a hospital due to expiring tissues/samples taken from the patients expiring, many hours after it was taken. What often happens is a sample will be taken and a test ordered, before the specimen can be taken by a transporter to take it to a testing facility it will expire. The hospital then reorders a new specimen taken, the patient will then have to pay for both times which can be 7 or 8 tubes of blood at $40-90 each. I wont even go into more in depth procedures which can run up to $500 and multiple can be taken at a time.
Remember this is only night shift and only accounts for a single department. There are many other instances of problems due to non-centralization that are costing ,within a resonable estimate; hundreds of thousands that goes directly to the patient bill each week from one hospital.
Last major problem I see is blood that is ordered for bleeding patients or potential bleeders. Often thousands of dollars in blood will be ordered for a patient. This blood will not be used and will attempted to be returned to the blood center which is an organization that is off site. Many times the transporter from the blood center will take hours to pick up the blood/blood products. By then the product will have expired and the cost of a blood product that should not have been charged(which it would not have been if it was picked up on time) to the patient now goes directly to that patients bill when the circumstance was out of that persons control. I have personally seen a persons bill go from $2,000 to $4,000 due to blood products not being picked up in a timely manner.

angela   September 21st, 2009 9:07 pm ET

Larry, please ask Mr. Clinton, why is it the American people fall for so many mistruths and lies instead of finding out the facts, what can we do to make the fear mongers less successful?

Who signed-off on the onscreen text?

BILL CLINTON RESPONDS TO CARTER'S RACISM
comments and Obama's health care plan

You may wanna consider reformatting that text. :-)

Jeannie Fernsworth   September 21st, 2009 9:11 pm ET

Bill Clinton

Subject Haiti:

What do you see as the role of South Florida Hatians in repairing Haiti?

Would you be willing to come to a forum in South Florida to address South Florida Hatians about what they can do for Haiti?

Ideas would include a model based on Israel's / US Youth program.

Benjamin Poston/   September 21st, 2009 9:13 pm ET

I really like Bill Clinton. I think he helped this country>He did not get us involved in wars in which all the the muslim people in the world hate us now. My cousin was in the invasion of iraq. His job was to pick up bodies of dead Us soldiers. One soldier got in trouble and killed himself. I feel the iraq war was unnessary and could possibly lead to world war.I think george w bush did more to destroy this countries reputation then any other president. The government used to be for the people by the people. Now it is big business and money first while the poor become poorer and disinfranchised. We used to stand behind people as a country . now our country has become a big bully in world affairs, and is headed down a dangerous slope. We have become a country that spies on it's own people, reminiscent of Nazi germany and stalin Soviet union. We are no longer a democracy. Harry Truman made a statement while he was president that a country should not spy on it's own people.

angela   September 21st, 2009 9:16 pm ET

He is brilliant..........he knows so much and looks at every angle, and really thinks. I always enjoy llistening to hom.

justin   September 21st, 2009 9:21 pm ET

Comming from the deep south; Hendersonville, NC. I can say without a doubt that enough of the people against health care are doing so because of racism. Yes a majority of the people that would oppose him due to race would do so anyways, but if only 2% of those opposed do so due to race then it is enough to change the outcome drastically. Take just about any presidential election, 2% change in who people voted for would have changed the outcome of nearly every presidental election in our history

Gerard Kelleher   September 21st, 2009 9:24 pm ET

How would you rate the President on the following

a) With the economy showing signs of a slight recovery and with the billions of $ borrowed form China which reached over 2 trillion $ before Obama's withdrawl do you see this as a concern that China holds such power if you will over the USA.

Gerard Kelleher

Nikkistake   September 21st, 2009 9:27 pm ET

Angela, I agree with you, he is brillant, besides letting his maleness lead him, he left Bush with a fresh start. Look what Bush left Obama with.

Arlan   September 21st, 2009 9:28 pm ET

Two things Mr. President & Larry:

1) The excessive cost of American healthcare is because of greedy lawyers with their stupid, unnecessary lawsuits. Blame it on Big Law!!

2) We who oppose President Obama are not racists. I am invoking the memory and meaning of Rosa Parks; we will not be told to sit at the back of the bus just because we disagree with the President.

carol kesling   September 21st, 2009 9:28 pm ET

i love bill clinton, i wish he could run for president again !!!! but i WILL stand behind obama.... he is trying to make change and the gop fight him every step of the way.. they NEED to give this president a chance instead of fighting him constantly. that makes EVERYTHING impossible.. and they need to get behind him 100%... enough is enough !!!!!

angela   September 21st, 2009 9:30 pm ET

When Joe Smith yelled "liar", he yelled it every American who voted for Obama, period. He felt very comfortable in doing this and it is telling, he tells us that he has no respect for the wish of the majority of Americans, and that he is part of a divisive, fracturing, non civil movement of disruptive insiders.

Dodie ~ California   September 21st, 2009 9:34 pm ET

@ KIM COLAR

The only way we can stand behind our prescient is to take to the streets and demonstrate. Not to Purchase anything so the large corporate America has to listen to us. No president or small group of people can counter all that is in Washington.

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:34 pm ET

I cant wait to go to Little Rock and see Bill Clintons library again and I am also going to go to Memphis this time.
Memphis and Little Rock are great and alot to see, etc!
People should do this!!!

Munn   September 21st, 2009 9:35 pm ET

President Clinton I think you are a special envoy to Haiti what recommendations do you have to help develop Haiti in order to help the Haitian people out of the situation they find themsleves

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:36 pm ET

Bill Clinton has a way about him. He is a good guy. He is so great!

justin   September 21st, 2009 9:36 pm ET

I wonder if anyone has ever said "Everyone that opposes Obama is racist".... This is my last comment ever on racism. Its a dead subject, those that are racist wont change, those that oppose Obama that are not racist do not deserve the negativity. Things wont change from us talking about this anymore. It is a problem, but it wont change today and we have more important things to work on.

Dodie ~ California   September 21st, 2009 9:36 pm ET

Clinton Was a Good President! He was a boy scout the first term. I think he had no idea how UGLY it is in Washington! He tried to make good on his promise and was blackballed for the first term.

Nikkistake   September 21st, 2009 9:36 pm ET

I agree. People are against the health plan due to racism, but don't leave out ignorance as well. I am a health care provider, and recently an NP informed me that she was participating in a protest against the health care policy, because it would hurt geriatric patients. I said to her, where exactly did you read that, because I've been reading it for 2wks, and I've yet to read where older people would suffer. She said, the company I work for told me thats whats in the plan. I really had a tremendous amount of respect for this nurse until then. I advised her to obtain all the facts before protesting for or against something she new little about

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:39 pm ET

I doubt this will post, but ask President Clinton what he thinks if Israel doesnt allow Iran to have nuclear weapons.
This is very alarming. Will Israel act?

LTC (Ret) Kenneth Wu   September 21st, 2009 9:39 pm ET

Larry King: Please ask President Clinton:

Why President Obama did not mobilize his cabinet, especially the Seretary of Health & Human Services to convene a task force to draft a comprehensive legislative proposal on Health Care Form and submit it to Congress right after his first state of the Union address. NIne months of executive branch initiative has been wasted. Town hall meetings and media are not the way to go for a sea change in a major shift in federal policy. Better do it state by state for the nitty gritty.

J-M. Chevallier   September 21st, 2009 9:39 pm ET

President Clinton is the only one in recent history to have been able to run this country at a profit. By that measure, he is the best president we have had.

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:41 pm ET

President Bush did much in Africa. President Bush never gets his due in that respect!

Amy Aiken in Atlanta   September 21st, 2009 9:41 pm ET

Larry,
Please relay to Mr. Clinton the BEST BUMPER STICKER I ever read:

" I MISS BILL "

And I do!
Sincerely,

Amy in Atlanta

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:42 pm ET

oy! Who wants to live to 100!
yuck!
that would suck!

Nikkistake   September 21st, 2009 9:42 pm ET

I don't agree that all who oppose the health care plan are racist, but i believe a lot of racist individuals are jumping on the ban wagon at an opportunity to oppose any actions of this President

JohnB   September 21st, 2009 9:43 pm ET

Sorry, Arlan. You're absolutely wrong about the impact of malpractice-related expenses on the cost of U.S. healthcare.

Any study on this subject has come to roughly the same conclusion: the total impact of malpractice expenses as a percentage of US health care costs is less than 0.5%!

LTC (Ret) Kenneth Wu   September 21st, 2009 9:43 pm ET

Why President Obama did not convene and mobilize the Dept of Health and Human Services to draft a comprehensive health care reform legislative proposal right after his first State of the Uninion address and submit it to Congress. Nine months wasted. Town Hall meetings and media blast will not do it.

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:44 pm ET

cure alzeihmers before you live to 100!
can you imagine a world where everyone lives to 100 but has alzeihmers? eeeeeeeeeks!
God is too just and too fair to ever allow that!

Maher Hajarat   September 21st, 2009 9:45 pm ET

Question for Mr. Clinton:

Subject Middle east:

Do you see that changing in the political map as well as the political structure is needed in order to reach peace in the middle east? I'd think that Jordan can Certainly have a bigger role in establishing a palestinian country or jordanian/palestanian confederation.

Nikkistake   September 21st, 2009 9:45 pm ET

I don't believe God micromanages Man

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:47 pm ET

President Clinton looks good on this show?
Is it the lighting or does he look just as good in real life?

Mark Salem   September 21st, 2009 9:47 pm ET

Why is it to hard to achieve peace in the middle east?

Just simply pull the Israeli troops from the land they occuied in 1967?

What is in it for us to NOT force Israel to do that? That is the reason for the fact that we,a s americans, are hated?

CT   September 21st, 2009 9:47 pm ET

Why CAN"T LARRY EVER ask any one something that we do not ALREADY know? His interviews are BORING Boring Boring!!!!!!!!!
He did not ask Clinton one thing we didn't already know!!

After all ,there is a new book about Clinton ,no wonder Larry is way down in the ratings!!!!!!!!

Cal

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:49 pm ET

Heres a joke!
Obama hasnt even appointed a person to head Medicare, etc!
The health insurance companies "got" to President Obama!
The health reforms are a scam!

michael armstrong sr.   September 21st, 2009 9:50 pm ET

What does mr. Clinton think about making weed leagle and why is it leagle to have a constitution made from weed [himp paper]

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:50 pm ET

We should have medicare for everyone!
Who doesnt like Medicare?
I like that Anthony Weiner.
Him I like!
That guy I can relate to and he talks plain!
Obama is very fancy in his speech and is not direct!

Arlan   September 21st, 2009 9:51 pm ET

JohnB

Sorry for you maybe because you just pulled that 0.5% out of thin air. The 6% – 18% annual increase in healthcare cost is not the result of the so-called "greedy" insurance companies. Drs. and hospitals practice defensive medicine not because it is necessary for treatment but to protect themselves from ambulance chasing vultures. If not, you explain where the increased cost is coming from.

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:52 pm ET

I dont trust Episcopalians! hahahaha!
Jews and Catholic politicans are more honest when it comes to health care!!! hahahahaha!

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:53 pm ET

Katherine Hepburn had that? yes?

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:54 pm ET

What a nightmare!!!!
Parkinsons, yikeS!!!

Nikkistake   September 21st, 2009 9:54 pm ET

Because smoking weed hinders our education. So making it legal(Leagle) might cause a greater problem

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:54 pm ET

God watches over this country!
And I hope the Clintons do too!

Tommy   September 21st, 2009 9:55 pm ET

Hillary Clinton is great!
She has balls so to speak!
That is one great woman!!!!

Dodie ~ California   September 21st, 2009 9:56 pm ET

@ Tommy

Large corporate America, Pharmaceuticals, AMA, insurance companies, etc. Lobbyists have basically paid off Congress... Our wonderful elected officials.

Linda   September 21st, 2009 9:56 pm ET

@Nikkistake

I am a Nurse and that Nurse must live on a different planet then the other nurse I know who ARE for Health Care Reform. In no way will Senior be hurt by a reforming of the crap that these big Insurance companies are shelving out. You have to know that all of us and the elderly will lose if something isn't done about how Health Care is managed today.
And I think Pres Bill Clinton is great.

Hellen   September 21st, 2009 9:59 pm ET

I Love President Clinton. He is a CLASS ACT!! Admire & respect
very much!!! Thank You.

michael armstrong sr.   September 21st, 2009 10:00 pm ET

Didnt you know our costitution was made with weed paper thats the only paper they used back then himp paper.

Linda   September 21st, 2009 10:01 pm ET

@ Tommy

THATS A GOOD LOOKING MAN, HAHA

Nikkistake   September 21st, 2009 10:02 pm ET

The ambulance chasing vultures, as you refer to them are a large part of the problem, however, so are the premiums that "managed care companies impose." I am blessed enough to be able to afford insurance, however, what my company's health plan charges to insure a family or individual is absurd

angela   September 21st, 2009 10:03 pm ET

why on earth do you ask the audience to submit questions, then you get a slew of them and dont use them, same old same old. at least our questions are fairly fresh, but since they dont get used, whats the point in asking the viewers, you need to stop this annoying trend please.

Katie   September 21st, 2009 10:06 pm ET

Big fan of what Clinton is doing with his foundation and Global efforts... Does Clinton see Science/Research as an industry the US excels in globally? if so, there is a serious decline in funding young scientists which is redirecting our intellectual property (scientific minds) into fields outside of research. He might think in 20 years we'll have Nano body scans but not without researchers discovering how to do it. Wish he would focus his efforts and resources on ensuring scientific future.

Larry – I love you and Bill, man what a show.

Great questions, and the X-pres., what a smart, thoughtful, reasonable and giving man. He just keeps giving, and let the critics fault him for what they will, he is human; but he's made an enormous impact for the better on this planet, and is dedicating his life to noble causes. His accomplishments astound me.

You're right Angela, I'm out!

Did anyone do the math?

A vehicle at 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of gasoline.

A vehicle at 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year.

So, the average "Cash for Clunkers" transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.

They claim 700,000 vehicles – so that's 224 million gallons / year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.

Five million barrels of oil is about ¼ of one day's US consumption.

And, 5 million barrels of oil costs about $350 million dollars at $70/bbl.

So, we all contributed to spending $3 billion to save $350 million.

How good a deal was that ???

They'll probably do a great job with health care though

Great show and great guest Larry.

WE NEED MORE OF THOSE, AND LESS OF THE TYRA BANKS, "CRAP"

carol kesling   September 21st, 2009 10:52 pm ET

debbie   September 21st, 2009 11:27 pm ET

The same people marching against health care, taxes and government take over, where were they when President Bush raised taxes, gave tax breaks to only the rich and created a trillion dollar breakdown of our country? It seems to me it is all about the black man in office. These same people (mainly Republicans) yelling about President Obama were silent during Bush administration creating a tragedy for all of us. Look into the crowds that march, they are primary white people. This is all about them not accepting President Obama. The President is working for all of us, trying to guide this country back and all he hears from the Republican party is NO on everything. I agree you can share concerns but complain about everything, it is pure racial to me. I would like Republicans to look at the the President's abilities and not the color of his skin.

Gerald Jolly   September 21st, 2009 11:35 pm ET

Steven, I did the math What you left out was 730,000 new cars that might not have been sold if the cash for clunkers program had not existed.

730,000 new cars "MEANS A LOT OF JOBS" that might not of existed otherwise.

730,000 new car sales prevented 100's of dealerships from laying off some or all of their staff.

YOU DUMB REPUBLICANS, WERE NOT ABLE TO COUNT CORRECTLY FOR EIGHT YEARS, AND NOW YOU ARE TRYING TO CONVINCE THE INTELLIGENT FOLKS THAT YOU ARE "SMARTER" THAN US?????

Dodie ~ California   September 22nd, 2009 12:11 am ET

@ Steven

Don't worry. Car sales has ended for this year! The only concern I have is, can those people who traded in their car and purchased a new one can continue to make the loan payments or will the banks whine again stating that it was the government's fault and want more money for more bad assets!

How on earth did "we the people" get into the business of purchasing bad assets made by banks???

Like to watch Larry. However tired of seeing inthe lower right of the TV screen a moving sign telling me I'm watching cnn.com/larry king.
It is a pain in the neck. We know it's you so let us see the show without seeing this every second of the show.

Shelly   September 22nd, 2009 12:21 am ET

President Clinton was a naughty boy, but at least he did not destroy a part of the world based on lies.
Now let me see which is worse ....a little hanky panky or killing 1000s of our soldiers and 10,000plus Iraqi men, women and children.

Some of the posters here hide their contempt for Pres. Clinton under the infidelity guise but the truth is they cannot stand intelligent men ( or women) who really care for their citizens!

John McClure   September 22nd, 2009 12:30 am ET

Discouraged that CNN text box on lower screen portrays Carter as racist in all caps.

John McClure   September 22nd, 2009 12:38 am ET

Bill,
what are you personally doing to help President Obama pass his health care initiatives?

Linda   September 22nd, 2009 1:08 am ET

I could sit and listen to Clinton all day on any topic and would understand everything he speaks of....you know.....he just has an incredible way of putting his thoughts out there.....he must be considered the best person to interview.....because he is so damn genuine!! I do love that man and would love to see him president again.........

Kim   September 22nd, 2009 1:14 am ET

Great show Mr. King and get him back next week. Bill Clinton has a way of explaining politics and ya understand what he's telling you. What did he say about Afghan and sending in more troops ? What does he think we need to do ? Listen to General McChrystal and support the troops ? Obama wants clarity and says it's not going to be driven by politics.Once he has the clarity, then he'll talk resources. Biden says it's premature and wants troops in place ? Yell peace and pray cause I'm totally confused. McChrystal says he needs more men. That ya understand and will support the troops ! You don't have to support the war to support our troops ! No one says we'll win this war in Afghan. Why not ? Yes we will ! How would Bill Clinton handle all those poppy fields ? What would he do or plant instead to contribute to renewable energy ?

Kim   September 22nd, 2009 2:01 am ET

Could become Obama's vietnam but not likely and yet Bill Clinton sounds concerned in theory it may but doesn't think that'll happen ? So how do we make "sure" that doesn't happen and what would Bill Clinton do ? Not in theory, straight up and tell us.Our generation isn't doing another vietnam war and that's a 60's lesson we learned from.Support the troops !

Terry, TX   September 22nd, 2009 4:31 am ET

I have no better opinion of Clinton....than I do of Teddy Kennedy.....they think because they make the rounds of the talk hosts and news media that changes their history.....it doesn't. Clinton....sir....respectfully you made a joke of your presidency for a little booty.....that's your legacy...and you are not the worth the time to listen to.

Sometimes just saying "I'm sorry".....don't cut it....don't fly....don't play....don't pass the smell test.

Terry, TX   September 22nd, 2009 4:35 am ET

Oh.....and another thing.....since when do you give the Obama White House.....and hour with Bill Clinton.....to perpetuate their political agendas......this contrived media blitz....is not going to fool the voting public. An hour.....Larry.....an hour to a politician.....it's not like he found the cure to AIDS....or he walks in the footsteps of Mother Teresa.... he is a lowlife politician.

John   September 22nd, 2009 5:51 am ET

Larry,

I am a big fan of your show and commend you on your great interviews. However there is one aspect of your show that is annoying to say the least, there are so many commercials that it takes the joy out of watching the show as there is no flow to the interviews when they keep getting interrupted minute and after minute. While i do understand this is a commercial venture and the need for sponsors in order for your network to generate revenues, this is certainly excessive and perhaps you should look at a new format or new way of generating revenue that does not ruin the essence of your show.

Kind Regards,

John

Terry,Tx

The GOPs go around talking about Big Goverment.

You listen too much to Gov Perry who didn't want to take the stimulus for his State that's in dire need but had 'applied' for dollars from the Federal Goverment which is Goverment.
Here is the difference of the two.
The stimulus,a Gov had to use it only for the purposes it was to be used for, roads, bridges, repairing of schools, unemployment dollars etc.Stimulus is accountable.
The money these Govs get when applying for Goverment dollars is Not Accountable. These Govs can use it anyway they feel fit .

That should be change.

Judith   September 22nd, 2009 6:40 am ET

Terry/Tex.

Where you recently released, or has the Asylum given you permission to use a computer??

The last I heard of about you, was that the Judge had sentenced you to an intidermanate period of time at the Asylum for the troubled ansane individulas under very strict supervision.

Are you still threatening to kill all black men in the U.S.

How on earth arte you dealing with having a black man for the President.??

What?? did you escape from the "BOOBY HATCH"

Sas Saddick   September 22nd, 2009 5:00 pm ET

It is wonderful to see how a former president is actively involved in world affairs.... What does former President Bill Clinton propose to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian impasse given that it is 9 years later since his attempt to get the ball rolling?
