May 15, 2009 LKL WEB EXCLUSIVE: Elliott on IdolPosted: 08:35 PM ET
First off I should admit I didn't catch every Idol episode this year, but from what I saw, I'd say the talent pool was really deep. But in general there weren't a lot of good back stories this year, and there weren't many charchters, or unique personalities. That's what set my year apart. That year we had Kellie Pickler, Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee and some other charachters. Of the two remaining this year, I can honestly say I don't really care for Kris. I do like Adam though. He's the most dynamic contestant the show's had this season. There were several changes made on the show this year also. I really like how they got to play their own instruments. I don't play an instrument, so I'm sort of glad they didn't have that in season 5, but I don't think it would have made much difference either way. I also don't think the addition an extra judge makes that much difference. A lot of people talk about the judging. I found their criticism very constructive, and it helped make me into a better performer. People probably think we got nervous about hearing what the judges are going to say, but to be honest, performing in front of 30 or 40 million people every week is the most nerve-racking thing I've ever done in my life. I've never been more nervous, and the process is completely draining. It was really hard to get used to the whole country watching, but it really helped me prepare for my career. I learned so much going through the process of being on Idol. It was the best learning experience I could have ever had. I came in third my year, and that was also very gratifying. I don't really look at it and say "what if I had been a finalist," or "what if I would have won." It's just awesome knowing I made it that far. I never, ever expected to even be third. It's more than I could have ever hoped for and I wouldn't change a thing. My third album, "Fight for Love," just came out this week. It's a contemporary pop, soul, R&B mix. I probably wouldn't have had one album at this point in my career if it hadn't been for Idol. It's 100% fair to say I owe my career to "American Idol."
