Obama signs order to close Guantanamo Bay facility

Posted: 02:51 PM ET

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Promising to return America to the "moral high ground" in the war on terrorism, President Obama issued three executive orders Thursday to demonstrate a clean break from the Bush administration, including one requiring that the Guantanamo Bay detention facility be closed within a year.gitmo

During a signing ceremony at the White House, Obama reaffirmed his inauguration pledge that the United States does not have "to continue with a false choice between our safety and our ideals."

The president said he was issuing the order to close the facility in order to "restore the standards of due process and the core constitutional values that have made this country great even in the midst of war, even in dealing with terrorism."

I am very disappointed with the Reporters on CNN. Today I noticed that most of the newscasters referred to our new President as Mr. or just Barack Obama, then referred to Ex-President Bush as President Bush. This is unacceptable on every level. As a Navy Veteran and a Watcher of your show, this is our Commander and Chief like it or not. He is the leader of this country and as CNN has always referred to the members of the armed services by rank then how in good conscious can you honestly not give him the respect do to him as President. This needs to be addressed and an APOLOGY is in order. We the people of the United States have Voted and he is the Leader and is due RESPECT.

Dear Larry and Cnn I too agree with Erica Harringotn.President Obama should be just that President Obama. There are other news shows that do the same thing.
Now to get back to closing Guantanamo Bay.President Obama campaigned on that so no one should be in shock. Also what I understand ex President Bush also stated it should be close but he sat on that.Maybe because he wanted to wait to see who would win the election in Nov if it would be our P Obama or Senator McCain.
Last night Sen John McCain was on and he too said it should be close so what's the problem? Why is it no one voiced their opinions while ex P Bush was in office and are making a big deal now with our new President?

dear sir; CLOSING GITMO WILL NOT PROVE ATHING. BUT IF PRESIDENT OBAMA DOES CLOSE IT WHAT IS HE GOING TO DO WITH THE MEN THAT ARE THERE. IF HE RELEASE THEM AND THEY GO BACK TO KILLING AMERICANS IS THE PRESIDENT GOING TO TB HELD LIBIAL FOR THIER DEATHS? JUST A QUESTION THINK THIS OVER BEFORE YOU ACT.

To Larry King, Whay do you have Joy Behar on all the time? SHE is the most rude person and she thinks her opinions are right. She is very disrepectful of Pres. Bush, regardless of her politics,l she should be more respectful. Even on the view I know of many people want watch it because of her. I like to watch your show but JOY BEHAR makes me turn you off..

Closing down the Gitmo may look like a cosmetically charming step to world outsidebut it may prove devastating and might send across the worong message of being soft towards the most hard core of the criminals.
Most of them when released have been reported coming back to terror with resolve , i guess it's time to tighten the screws even tighter than taking these frivolous and cosmetic steps.

I saw Joy Behar on your show. Why? She made a comment about Rush being anti american because of a 5 second sound bite you played. Why didn't you play the entire answer that he gave. I heard it and the rest of what he said and what was played was only part. That's not fair reporting, that's heavy leaning in the wrong direction. If Rush is anit american, what is Joy Behar? After all the Bush bashing she has done and with so much hate, she is the most anit american that I have heard on TV. That's why I no longer watch the view. Can't stand when she thinks that she is right and if you don't agree with her, watch out! She needs to listen to more informed, fair reporting and then make opinions. She never had any respect for President Bush. Just because she didn't agree with his politics doesn't mean she had to speak about him with hate and anger. I don't agree with Obama but I will give him a chance. I will not speak about him with hate but with respect. Like all Presidents should be treated. If she thinks she can do a better job, run for the office, then lets see how well she would do!
Find someone better to have on your show. Don't like to watch when she is on. I turn the channel.
